Unpaid committee fees: verify before escalating

A practical sequence for checking payments, documenting balances and contacting a resident respectfully.

Reconcile the bank statement first. Check the unit, billing period, decision behind the charge and payments that may lack a matching reference. An unexplained gap is not proof of refusal. The system records payments; the money goes directly to the committee’s bank account.

Send a private message listing periods, amounts, supporting records and a way to correct an error. Record delivery and replies. Do not publish debtor names in a lobby or group as pressure; disclosure of personal information needs an appropriate basis and case-specific review.

If the issue remains, assemble bylaws, decisions, balances and correspondence for professional review. This guide is not legal advice. Do not automatically add interest, expenses or sanctions without checking authority and justification.

Checklist

  • Reconcile before demanding payment
  • Use a private, itemised enquiry
